X-Ray Image

This image is produced by the GOES-13 satellite. Regions capable of producing flares are shown in white. The green coloration represents the x-ray light from gases in the solar corona at temperatures near 100,000 K .The black areas are Coronal Holes in which hot gases are not being trapped near the solar surface .The solar photosphere, at a temperature of 6000 K ,does not produce very much x-ray light so it appears black.
